How objectively measured Twitter and Instagram use relate to self‐reported personality and tendencies toward Internet/Smartphone Use Disorder

Mounting evidence suggests meaningful relationships between personality and tendencies toward Internet Use Disorder (IUD), Smartphone (SmUD) Social Networks (SNUD). Results of past research vary not only depending on methods applied, but also with respect to data platforms investigated. With the present work, we aimed examine links objectively measured use Twitter/Instagram in a sample N = 331 participants. We further investigated relationship actual social media usage self-reported IUD/SmUD. observed that active (number posts) was negatively correlated IUD/SmUD levels. Other users' reactions one's posts (Likes comments) other hand were positively associated SmUD severity. Thus, our work contradicts sometimes prevailing view greater activity general predicts SmUD. Finally, replicated most prior findings by showing Extraversion, Conscientiousness, Agreeableness more (e.g. Twitter). Based results, some types seem be beneficial individual thus do contribute development or maintenance problematic context applications.
